About Us

Heraeus Medical brings value to the patient, the healthcare professional and the health care system by providing solutions for the fixation of joint implants, driving infection management and by pioneering regenerative treatments for bone, cartilage and soft tissue. Treatments for muscoskeletal degeneration are highly specialized, costly and resources are restricted. Patients have to live with pain and loss of ability for long periods of time. Therefore Heraeus Medical has embraced this challenge and will develop effective, safe and affordable orthobiologic solutions.

Preventing infections from the outset - trust PALACOS®

PALACOS® bone cement is probably the best-known product from Heraeus and considered the Gold Standard for joint arthroplasty. For decades PALACOS® bone cement with Gentamicin allows for effective infection prophylaxis through local application of antibiotics. Recent data from the National Joint Registry (NJR) demonstrate that PALACOS® R+G has a significantly lower revision rate in comparison to all other cement brands in hip and knee replacements.

Prevention in Risk for Infection Procedures with COPAL® G+C

COPAL® G+C bone cement containing two antibiotics has long been used for revisions after replacement of hip or knee joints And now has proven that patients at risk of infection benefit from bone cement with a combination of antibiotics.

Heraeus with its extensive experience in the field of therapeutic support with local antibiotics, further provides high quality training and supports international knowledge projects on PJI.

PALAMIX – the next generation: Mixing and collecting under vacuum – now with spatula clip

The optimized PALAMIX® vacuum mixing system is the secret behind optimal processing of Heraeus bone cements.

It makes vacuum mixing and application of bone cement more convenient: both the mixing of the components and the collection of the bone cement is carried out under vacuum. A new spatula clip allows for the simple cement application in TKA.

Reduce risk for infection in high risk patients using COPAL G+C.
Co-morbidities influence the risk for an infection. Periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) has a large impact on patient´s quality of life and leads to high healthcare costs. Dual antibiotic-loaded bone cement (COPAL® G+C) can reduce the risk of PJI after primary arthroplasty in patients with an exclusive risk profile. Sanz-Ruiz & Berberich (2020) reported a PJI reduction by 34% in primary hip & knee arthroplasty with COPAL® G+C in high risk patients. With a minimum follow-up period of 1 year, a PJI rate of 3.7% was found in the PALACOS® R+G cohort and a PJI rate of 2.45% in the COPAL® G+C cohort with an exclusive high-risk profile (n = 2551).

Patient matters & sustainable solutions! How can we improve hip arthroplasty outcome in osteoarthritis and hip fracture patients?
ABOUT: Infact, high standards and patient-centered, multi-professional treatment concepts to reduce complications are considered key factors for successful hip arthroplasty in an ageing population. Yet, there’s no international consensus on the fixation method. Let’s take a deeper look at upcoming clinical concepts and registry studies who are looking out for patient related risk and outcome measurement factors to provide sustainable solutions. Better Prophylactic Efficacy Of Dual Antibiotic-Loaded Bone Cements In Risk For Infection Patients – What Is The Evidence?
Recent clinical data (summarized in this e-poster) provide evidence that dual ALBC may confer better protection from prosthetic joint infection in particularly vulnerable patients or in higher risk procedures. A risk-adjusted local prophylaxis strategy with the dual ALBC COPAL G+C (loaded with 1 g of gentamicin & 1 g of clindamycin) has proven effective & safe in trauma femur fracture patients, in revision arthroplasty and in selected risk cases of primary arthroplasty.
